A Much Needed Sabbatical

Posted by Joanne Glasspoole in New Business Development

On March 1, I will be out of the office for the entire month.

In my absence, Melissa Gacek will be your contact person for all graphic design, branding & identity and print work. She will also remain the project lead on all her existing Joomla projects.

Melissa's phone number is 612.306.5405 and her email address is melissa@indigocrs.com.

For Joomla and other related CMS and/or technical issues, please contact Jacob Hodara. Jacob will temporarily take over as project lead on all my existing web projects.

The best way to contact Jacob is via email: jacob@indigocrs.com.

I will be back to work on April 1 and am confident you will be well serviced during my absence.

5 ways to overcome cold call reluctance

Posted by Joanne Glasspoole in Professional Development

This afternoon, I received a Skype invitation from someone I do not know. Usually, I block those sorts of contacts, but lately I've started replying, "Who are you?" Most people don't reply back, so I block them.

This young man did reply back with a very good introduction that drew me into wanting to know more about what he was looking for. In his intro, he made it obvious that he had visited our website and did his research about Indigo, which impressed me. He's a graphic designer, so I referred him to Melissa. His foot is in the door, because I told him to use my name when he talks to her.

You see, it never hurts to try new approaches to old ideas, like cold calling, which we all hate!!

I'm sure more and more of us small business owners are using cold calling as a way to find new business. If you are looking to hone your cold calling skills, be sure to read 5 ways to overcome cold call reluctance -- and if you're creative, try something a bit out of the box like the young man this afternoon. You might be pleasantly surprised by the results!!

My Top 5 Songs By The Doors

Posted by Joanne Glasspoole in Personal Musings

Although this list is subject to change, as of this moment, here are my Top 5 songs by The Doors:

Build Me A Woman: http://p.rhap.com/Tra.709636

I will Never Be Untrue: http://p.rhap.com/Tra.9063271

The End: http://p.rhap.com/Tra.13940322

Orange County Suite: http://p.rhap.com/Tra.9063261

When the Music's Over: http://p.rhap.com/Tra.13940309

Which are your favorite songs by The Doors? I'd really like to know!

Personally, I don't think there is a more moving song than "When the Music's Over"—especially toward the end when Jim Morrison is screaming, "Save us, Save us."

Just imagine all the great things Jim Morrison wasn't able to accomplish—and we never had the chance to enjoy—because his life was cut short at 27.

It's so sad, but he's still so cool!!

Was Jim Morrison's death a strangely conceived career move?

Posted by Joanne Glasspoole in Personal Musings

The doors with jim morrison image by kimissofly on Photobucket http://bit.ly/7Z8e91This morning, I read an article written by Richard Harrington, "Morrison: Still Hot, Still Sexy, Still Dead; A Revolutionist Critique of The Man and the Myth," originally published in The Washington Post on March 10, 1991.

Although no one knows for sure how he died (there was no autopsy), I believe Jim Morrison chose death.

It was no secret that Jim Morrison was an alcoholic. Of his drinking, Morrison once called it "the difference between suicide and slow capitulation."

Toward the end of his article, Harrington surmised of Morrison:

He seemed less scared of dying than of growing old and irrelevant, and it was the original dreams—films, poetry—that seemed to enflame him. Morrison still seemed to think that immortality was more probable in print than on vinyl… Then he took a bath and died.

Amazingly, Jim Morrison has been dead for almost 40 years. And like most artists, he is more famous in death than he was in life.

What do you think? Was Jim Morrison's death a strangely conceived career move?

My Obsession with Jim Morrison

Posted by Joanne Glasspoole in Personal Musings

As some of you may know, I am working on a project about Jim Morrison, the lead singer of The Doors. I have been a Doors fan since I was a young, wannabe hippie, and I have always been in love with Jim Morrison—as strange as that may sound.

I actually have a Heaven fantasy: When I die, first I'll go find—or they'll find me—my family members, friends & pets, and then I'm going to go search for Jim Morrison. I absolutely must meet him!! LOL

I have an excellent team of people lined up to help me with with my project:

  • I have an artist lined up to do Jim Morrison's portrait.
  • I have an illustrator lined up to do drawings of Jim Morrison. I was thinking today, in addition to using the artwork on the website, it might be fun to sell t-shirts & other promo items.
  • I have a French photographer lined up to take photos of places in Paris where Jim Morrison still holds a special memory.
  • I have a Vedic astrologer writing Jim Morrison's lifetime report.
  • I have a Chinese astrologer writing about Jim Morrison's relationships.
  • And mixed in between will be my personal commentary, videos of live performances, photographs, etc.

I don't know why I had a calling to do this project, but it came to me in the late summer and is evolving every day. I fully intend for this to be an award winning website, so I'm putting it out there…

And, of course, the site will be built in Joomla.

The JimMorrisonProject.com will be launched on July 3, 2011, the 40th anniversary of Jim Morrison's death.

Stay tuned! It's going to be a really cool memorial site when we're done!!
